Celebrating our village
Hassocks’ Annual Parish Meeting took place at Adastra Hall on 21st May. Councillors were joined by residents and representatives from almost a dozen local sports and community groups. Going beyond the legal requirement of an annual meeting, the event aimed to celebrate the civic life of our village and provide genuine opportunities for residents to get involved.
Cllr Frances Gaudencio delivered the Chairperson’s Annual Report, which celebrated The Council’s achievements over the last year, and how they were enabled through partnerships with community groups, volunteers and various levels of government, as well as updating residents on The Council’s assets, environmental work and governance.
‘We all know how Hassocks is enriched by a vast number and variety of trees. For me a tree with deep roots, numerous branches and abundant foliage or fruit can be seen as a metaphor for the Parish Council. We are connected to, and interdependent on, the community that we serve and which we are a part of.’ – Introduction to the Annual Report
Maintaining our football pitches
Hassocks Parish Council has secured a £56,320 grant from the Football Foundation, giving a major boost to sport and community life at Adastra Park. Over the next six years the Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund grant will improve the quality and reliability of the park’s playing fields. The funding will support the long-term care of Adastra Park’s six adult and junior football pitches, helping to keep them fit for training, matches and everyday community use throughout the year. Improving pitch quality and resilience will protect an important community asset, encourage wider participation in sport, and keep Adastra Park at the heart of village life for years to come.
